“To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.” Proverbs 21:3 NKJV
The two great commandments of God are enshrined in this verse. We are to love God and to love our neighbors. We are righteous and just when we obey the laws of God. We are obedient to God because we love Him. We are righteous and just if we treat others as such. We do what is right and we are fair in dealing with them. It is also our obligation to give sacrifices to the Lord. Our sacrifices offered to Him please God in the same way that our righteousness and justice please him too. We should both be doing them. We should be righteous and just and we should also offer Him sacrifices. However, there could be times when conflicts arise. In which case, we should have the wisdom to do what pleases God the most. This is taught by Christ when He reprimanded the Pharisees that they are giving their tithes religiously and neglecting what are more important in the laws which are justice, mercy and faith. Moreover, Jesus healed a woman during Sabbath. Likewise, would you not help your parents in need because you have already promised to give to God in the form of Corban? Righteousness and justice, mercy and faith please God the most.
