To fear the LORD is to hate evil. I hate pride, arrogance, evil behavior, andtwisted speech. (Proverbs 8:13 GW)
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. It opens up the door of heaven for us to know our Lord and the kingdom of heaven which we were promised to inherit. The fear of the Lord is not the natural tendency due to threats of hurts or misfortunes, which drives one away from Him. It is not a terrorizing fear but a sense of awe due to the beauty of His holiness. The fear of the Lord is a loving feeling which drives us closer to Him. It is a reverential fear knowing that He is Lord, our savior, merciful and kind. Out of respect, we are duty bound to obey and serve Him. That fear can be interpreted to be the respect of the children to their parents, of employees/servants to their employers/masters. We know that God is holy and pure. His nature abhors all that are evil. He hates sins. We should also hate sin and anything that is evil. We do not live in darkness but are walking in the light of His words. Thus, we can approach Him without the prospect of being renounced. We can serve Him and our offering of praise and worship can be acceptable and pleasing to Him.
